OKTOBERFEST
IN THE RESTAURANT
"ZUM SCHNEIDER"
IN NEW YORK CITY
OCTOBER 9, 2006
The pictures on this website were made by Taka Kawasaki (thank you!)
who was so nice to put them in the internet for download.

This is the restaurant "Zum Schneider".
It's about 10 minutes walk east and south of Union Square.
It's in Alphabet City, which got its name because it comprises the Avenues A, B, C, and D.

The guy with the beard is the owner of the restaurant,
Sylvester Schneider, who is from Bavaria.

My friend Bettina and I were sitting right next to the band...

that is, we were sitting next to the band when we
didn't happen to be dancing on our chairs.
(At the original Oktoberfest in Munich, people dance on the benches,
which is what I learned when my cousin Diana, who lives in Munich,
invited me to visit her to go to the Oktoberfest)

The band was doing a very good job, they were playing real Bavarian music ...

and the owner of the restaurant was singing in Bavarian.
And he made everyone else speak Bavarian, too. He ordered:
"No, no, it's not: 'eins, zwei, g'suffa',
you have to say: 'oans, zwoa, g'suffa' "

I'm wearing my deutschtreffen.de shirt.
Those shirts were printed for the Steuben Parade.
This year, the back of the shirt says: "Wir feiern Feste auch wenn wir fallen."
(Deutschtreffen.de is a website to summarize all the German groups in the city,
German expat meetup, German culture meetup, German Yahoo group, Stammtisch.)

Some people from my hiking group and from the Lunchclub also happened to be there.
Here, Geraldine from Dynamic Outdoors is dancing with Volker (green shirt).

In case you are still wondering about the blue and white fonts I'm using:
blue and white are the colors of Bavaria.

So, that's it.
Hard to believe these pictures were made in New York and not in Germany, isn't it?
