ZION NATIONAL PARK

Utah, USA

November 2005

~

On the first day, we rented mountain bikes at Springdale Cycles and
rode them on the Pa'rus trail and the road through Zion National Park all the way to the end.

The Virgin river is the one that carved Zion National Park.

The fall foliage was very lovely. Temperature was about
65 to 68 F (15 to 18 C), which was nice for biking and hiking.

The second day, we hiked up Walter's Wiggles (a zigzag path) and
scrambled along this chain up to Scout Lookout:

On the right, just outside the picture, there is a steep dropoff of 1400 feet,
which made this climb a bit more scary than it looks here.

This is how far we went. Angel's Landing is atop the peak behind me (you can see a few people hike up),
but we didn't climb up there. Here is a good picture of Walter's Wiggles, Scout Lookout and Angel's Landing.
After searching the internet for a while, I found some pictures here and here (by Joe Braun) of the trail that we didn't take, which give you a good impression of how scary it really is. After seeing the pictures, I'm glad we didn't try it.

On the third day, we took three small hikes.

For obvious reasons, this is called the Weeping Rock.

This is the view from the bridge near the Grotto parking lot,
which we walked across to get to the Emerald pools.

Good bye, Zion. We had a lovely three days.
